November 09, 2025 / News
Doha, Qatar – November 9, 2025: From the depths of the sea to the vibrant neighborhoods of The Pearl and Gewan Islands, United Development Company’s Sustainability Week 2025 embodied a journey of collective action and environmental awareness, uniting residents, partners, and volunteers through impactful initiatives that marked another milestone in the Company’s sustainability journey.
This year’s edition witnessed record participation from divers, volunteers, and the wider community, surpassing last year’s engagement both in attendance and impact. The week further reinforced UDC’s position as one of Qatar’s leading advocates for sustainability, in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030.
As part of the week’s activities, UDC organized the largest seabed cleanup campaign in the region, a powerful testament to the Company’s long-standing commitment to protecting the marine environment and preserving natural resources. The campaign brought together over 250 volunteer divers from the local community, with the support of professional diving centers and environmental organizations.
The initiative resulted in the recovery of 843 Kilogram of recyclable marine waste, highlighting the growing spirit of community participation and environmental consciousness, while reaffirming UDC’s leadership in protecting marine ecosystems from pollution and promoting a shared culture of environmental responsibility.
The impact of this campaign has been evident since its launch in 2019, as the significant decline in collected waste volumes compared to previous years reflects its lasting effectiveness and positive contribution to marine conservation. It also serves as a clear indicator of the increasing environmental awareness among residents, divers, and volunteers, and their growing commitment to sustainable practices and the protection of marine life.
In parallel, UDC’s Plastic Recycling Initiative achieved notable progress by collecting 1500 Kilogram of recyclable plastic materials, reinforcing the principles of a circular economy within UDC’s communities and supporting Qatar’s national efforts to reduce plastic pollution.
The blood donation campaign organized in collaboration with Hamad Medical Corporation was one of the week’s standout initiatives, attracting a large turnout of residents and visitors and doubling the number of donors compared to last year, a testament to the community’s spirit of giving and social responsibility.
Furthermore, collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change played a key role in this year’s program, with awareness campaigns held at Gewan Island to encourage positive environmental behaviors and promote sustainable practices in daily life.
Concluding this year’s Sustainability Week, UDC reaffirms its unwavering commitment to leading sustainable urban development in the State of Qatar and continuing to expand its environmental and community initiatives.
Every initiative throughout the week was more than just an activity; it was a meaningful step toward a future where people, place, and planet coexist in harmony, transforming sustainability into a living reality across The Pearl and Gewan Islands.
